We obtained all data ourselves through a short lab study. We had four participants (3 male and 1 female). Two subjects were 20 and 23 years old and the remaining two were 50 and 57 years old. One subject had major heart surgery a year prior to the study in which a mechanical valve was placed and the vessels were transversed. There were two subjects that consisted of a sedentary lifestyle which we defined as more than 12 hours of sitting throughout the day and no activities that required extensive physical exertion. One subject consisted of moderate lifestyle defined as sitting roughly 6 hours per day and no activities that required extensive physical exertion. The final subject had an active lifestyle defined as sitting roughly 6 hours per day and performing activities that required extensive physical exertion.
The subjects performed 7 activities for a duration of 5 minutes each. These were performed as follows; standing, walking, speed walking, sitting, climbing stairs, lying down and push-ups. There was no rest time between activities.
Once the study was completed we conducted a short survey to get feedback on our device and experiment. The results of the survey are displayed and can be further explored here.
